Colour flow is a styling tip I teach people, who often say it’s the highlight of their one-on-one style session. This concept has numerous benefits, so let’s go through a few and then I’ll give you some ideas on the easiest way to apply it to your own outfits.

Visual Lines

People often wear black top to toe, because they believe it’s slimming. But this feeling can be achieved without a piece of black clothing in sight. How does that work you ask? When you imagine a long, visual line of unbroken tonal colour, where the eye starts at the top and ends at the bottom, without a break, that’s colour flow. It has an elongating effect.

The opposite of this is when you wear light and dark blocks of colours. Dark trousers and say a light top? With that, you have created a contrast at the waist and broken the lengthening effect by making two blocks instead of one long, lean flow.

A simple example is a dark pair of jeans, with a darker top, will create that colour flow. If you go for light wash jeans or bottoms, then you’d team it with a lighter top. Trust me, you’ll notice the difference immediately.

Trudi Bennett, renowned fashion stylist and owner of Wardrobe Flair shares helpful tips on choosing a neclkline style that works best for you.

Ever wondered where dressing for your shape begins?

Quite literally, the answer starts at the top, with your neckline. You’ll be amazed how the right neckline for your body shape makes such a difference to the confidence in both yourself and your outfit.

First Impressions.

When you look in the mirror, or when people meet you, the natural focus is to start at the eyes then travel down the rest of your outfit, tracing the lines of where your clothing ends. So, it starts with the neckline, then where your top ends, carrying down to trousers/skirts/dresses, and finally shoes. All in the space of a measly 3 seconds. First impressions are quick right?

Feeling Confident.

With a neckline you don’t feel 100% confident in, a potentially good outfit just doesn’t seem to work. Maybe you picked the dress or top because the colour or pattern was wonderful? It could be because it was on sale, or you just loved the fabric? Whatever the reasons, if the neckline is off, you’ll instinctually feel something’s not quite right.

Dressing for your shape is about balance.

If you feel you have a larger chest, wide shoulders or a shorter neck, you’re going to suit a lower neckline. That visual bit of decolletage cuts through both the chest and the shoulders and elongates the neck. Dressing for your shape is actually pretty logical. My job as a stylist is to try and give people enough knowledge & confidence to be able to trust their instincts. Most people who don’t suit a higher neckline instinctually clutch at their neck like they are being strangled if they try one on them!

This creates more fullness in the chest, for those of don’t feel particularly busty. It also helps with narrow shoulders, by again adding a little more visual width.

As for the shape of the neckline, that’s completely up to you. This season we are so lucky! There is a great neckline to suit absolutely everyone and variety is always refreshing.

Accessorize to suit.

Round, V-necks, square, cross-over, wrap, sweetheart, cowl and high necklines are all available. If you aren’t used to wearing a lower neckline – starting just above the cleavage – a pretty necklace or scarf will eliminate any feelings of having too much skin on show.

So, next time you head to Milford Shopping Centre to purchase an item, think about whether the shape of the neckline you have chosen feels right to you, based on the balance of your shape. That way you’ll feel 100 percent confident your purchase will be worn and loved, and you’ll feel fantastic, because let’s be honest, that’s what it’s all about right?

Pink and green will definitely be seen this winter, and can be found throughout the stores at Milford Shopping Centre. These two vibrant hues are perfect pop colours to add to neutral outfits to banish those winter blues.

If you’ve ever wondered why certain colours become strong mainstream trends, it usually begins with a story.

So, Let’s Talk Pink.

It begins with Barbie.

That’s right, once the trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Barbie movie hit overseas, this colour trend began. The colour’s called ‘Barbie pink’ and the trend itself, is named Barbiecore.

Pink started dominating social media feeds, then began flooding the streets during fashion month in Europe. Case in point, Valentino’s 22/23 collection was entirely pink.

The green trend is not new, as over the last few seasons a fresh granny smith apple colour, and a rather lovely bottle green appeared. Some loved the latter, others felt it gave off past school uniform vibes!

Kelly green is an American term, derived from Kelly being a common Irish last name and reminiscent of the Irish green landscape. The colour was named Kelly green in 1917, when the influx of Irish immigrants who had come to America were celebrating the St. Patrick’s day parade.

Unlike barbie pink, green is a much easier shade to style and there is a green that suits every skin tone. If the brighter Kelly green isn’t for you, then emerald, apple, leaf or khaki greens are also flattering options. If three treatments are purchased and three additional free treatments are received (a total of six treatments), the customer has 36 weeks or 9 months to redeem all six treatments. While the days are getting shorter and darker, we’re lucky gorgeous, floral prints are here to pull us out of the depths of winter despair and into happy thoughts of sunshine and style.

Whether you consider yourself a floral girly-girl, or not, let’s talk about the best ways to wear this current trend.

First up, there’s decisions about colours, not only the colour of the pattern, but the print’s background, as this is the primary colour that will shine through.

NEUTRAL BACKGROUNDS

Colours like black, white, navy, grey, ivory and beige are safe to buy when you aren’t quite sure what colour to wear. White backgrounds with bright, larger blooms give a stand-out, fresh look, while darker fabrics give a more tailored and elegant vibe.

Keep Your Little Ones Busy This Easter

Countdown Milford has great specials in-store and everything you need for a magical Easter. During your shop, pick up everything you need for Countdowns Easter Rocky Road recipe. It’s an easy one for the little ones to help with and is sure to be a family pleaser.

Ingredients

White chocolate buttons – 270 g

Mini marshmallows – 2 cups

Popcorn, salted – 45 g

Coconut, shredded – 1/4 cup

Mini coloured Easter eggs – 1 cup

Method

1. Line a 20 x 20 cm tin with tin foil.

2. Place the chocolate buttons in a heat proof bowl over simmering water.

(the water should not touch the bowl) until melted and smooth. Remove from the heat).

White chocolate rocky road with sprinkled Easter eggs

3. Add the marshmallows and popcorn to the chocolate, stirring quickly to combine. Pour into and spread evenly in the tin.

4. Sprinkle the coconut over top and dot over the Easter eggs pushing them in just a little.

5. Refrigerate for 30 minutes then cut into pieces. Store in an airtight container.

The Candle Making Workshop is Back

Tuesday January 23

Create a beautiful handmade gift for your special someone, with the Valentines themed Candle Making Workshop by Flame In Vintage.

The Workshop

Pop in and make a candle from February 1st until February 19th during ordinary Milford Centre hours, no bookings are required. Candle making is a fun and relaxing activity, which takes around 30 minutes to complete.

Bring your own candle vessel and fill it for $10 per 100mls, or choose from a vast array of vintage vessels (prices as marked).

Starting at $12, kids can make and take home a gorgeous fragranced oyster boot or shot glass candle, you can even decorate your own wrapping paper!
