Colour Flow
Expert advice on Colour Flow. Showing how matching combinations makes for stress-free styling and co-ordination.
Trudi Bennett, renowned Personal Fashion Stylist and owner of Wardrobe Flair, helps you learn how Colour Flow can enhance your style!
Colour flow is a styling tip I teach people, who often say it’s the highlight of their one-on-one style session. This concept has numerous benefits, so let’s go through a few and then I’ll give you some ideas on the easiest way to apply it to your own outfits.
Visual Lines
People often wear black top to toe, because they believe it’s slimming. But this feeling can be achieved without a piece of black clothing in sight. How does that work you ask? When you imagine a long, visual line of unbroken tonal colour, where the eye starts at the top and ends at the bottom, without a break, that’s colour flow. It has an elongating effect.
The opposite of this is when you wear light and dark blocks of colours. Dark trousers and say a light top? With that, you have created a contrast at the waist and broken the lengthening effect by making two blocks instead of one long, lean flow.
A simple example is a dark pair of jeans, with a darker top, will create that colour flow. If you go for light wash jeans or bottoms, then you’d team it with a lighter top. Trust me, you’ll notice the difference immediately.
Suit Up!
Let’s make it even easier by applying this to one of the hottest trends this season. Suits and matching top and bottom combinations are a winner. Wearing these gives you optimum colour flow. When co-ordination isn’t your strong point, the fact that you have a top and bottom that you KNOW works together is an absolute blessing.

Also, don’t underestimate the powerful feeling you get wearing a suit. They aren’t just for work either, you’ll see plenty of people wearing suits with a slogan t-shirt and sneakers as a smart casual option.
The other great benefit of both suits and sets, is versatility. Worn together or split, gives you so many more options.
Colour Flow – Making Styling Easy!
Our images show you suits, matching sets or instances of colour flow with light pants and a light top, or dark bottoms with a dark top. Talk about making it easy in the morning! Colour flow or matching combos makes for stress-free styling and co-ordination. Plus, you’ll feel really well put together and confident that you’re using clothing to highlight you in the best possible way.
