Winter Florals
Welcome to winter at Milford Shopping Centre and our first monthly style & trend update.
Trudi Bennett, renowned Personal Fashion Stylist and owner of Wardrobe Flair, gives her take on the current winter floral trend.
While the days are getting shorter and darker, we’re lucky gorgeous, floral prints are here to pull us out of the depths of winter despair and into happy thoughts of sunshine and style.
Whether you consider yourself a floral girly-girl, or not, let’s talk about the best ways to wear this current trend.
COLOURS
First up, there’s decisions about colours, not only the colour of the pattern, but the print’s background, as this is the primary colour that will shine through.
NEUTRAL BACKGROUNDS
Colours like black, white, navy, grey, ivory and beige are safe to buy when you aren’t quite sure what colour to wear. White backgrounds with bright, larger blooms give a stand-out, fresh look, while darker fabrics give a more tailored and elegant vibe.
STILL NOT CONVINCED FLORAL IS FOR YOU?
How about incorporating it into your look in a more subtle way? A floral print on shoes, or just a sleeve can give your outfit a modern twist. A pretty print top with an over-sized blazer creates a juxtaposition of feminine and masculine, and gives just a glimpse of floral down the middle.
DISTRACTING THE EYE…
Did you also know that prints in general are very good at distracting the eye. This gives a bit more confidence to people who are worried about any lumps or bumps being on show. And if you’re keen to keep your florals more to yourself, how about some beautiful botanics on your lingerie or pretty floral earrings?
Whether you decide to jump in, or dip your toe, the on-trend options are endless at Milford Shopping Centre.

Trudi’s love affair with all things stylish ignited after living in London for six years. Upon her return to Wellington – and a couple of children later – Trudi gave her lucky friends’ a ‘wardrobe revamp’.
